7 Simple Tips on Grocery Shopping For Weight Loss

  1. Plan before going to the grocery store and know what you need to make healthy options at home.

  2. Grocery shop with your list in hand, and do not stray from it. If you don't have it in your pantry, you won't eat it.

  3. Shop when you are full—shopping when hungry leads to impulse buys and bad decisions.

  4. Buy only healthy options, so there are no temptations once you are home.

  5. When possible, prepare your food from scratch rather than buying prepackaged processed foods.

  6. If you are going out to eat with friends, look at the menu beforehand and know what healthy option you will order. This is an example of an "if-then" plan which I will discuss more in another article.

  7. Track your progress for any health habit change, like exercise or healthy eating. Do this on your cell phone, in a dedicated app, or on a paper calendar where you mark off how you did the day before. Analog works excellent when you are getting started.
