4 Simple Steps That Will Help You Lose Weight and Keep it Off

Remember that small changes done consistently over time yield significant results.

  1. Get quality sleep. The amount of sleep needed differs for each person but getting at least 8-9 hours is key to losing weight.

  2. Eat a healthy, well-balanced breakfast each day. I got this tip from Tim Ferris, eat 30 grams of protein at breakfast. I add protein to my smoothie and 1/4 cup of walnuts. If you start your day hungry, you will most likely make poor decisions.

  3. Start exercising or increase your exercise. Start where you are if you can only walk halfway around the block, that is ok. Park further from the store or walk to the mailbox. Increase based on your doctor's recommendations.

    1. If you can exercise in the morning, you will be more likely to succeed. Will power decreases as the day goes on. Studies show those who exercise early in the day; exercise more, make healthier food choices, and lose more weight.

  4. Identity why you are eating? Most people don't eat because they are hungry; they eat because they are stressed, lonely, angry, tired or bored. Ask yourself what you are feeling. If you answer yes to any of the above feelings, take a walk, call a friend, do some deep breathing or do a task that will take 15-20 minutes. Twenty minutes is enough to rewire your brain and form new healthy habits.
If you are hungry, then eat!
